TANROADS: What are the Blogs?

Dear readers!

Blogs are public websites that serve as journals for individuals, reflecting their opinions, thoughts and views on various topics and subjects ranging from politics to current events to news about products, happenings, people etc. Blogs are a combination of text, images and links to other related websites, and are updated at frequent intervals. The blog entries are displayed in a reverse chronological order and provide users with the opportunity to post comments on the entries and carry out a discussion on the same with other like minded individuals.

Blogs can be created as an add-on to a website (e.g. www.tanroads.org) in order to promote and increase visibility of the site in search engines. Typically, the site architecture of a blog is simple, with clear and easy navigation and back-links from every page, thereby making it easier to be crawled and ranked by search engines. Blogs can be used to target desired keywords and phrases as it is easier to maintain the optimum keyword density through content, blog entry titles, categories etc. The frequency of blog updates ensures that it is crawled by the search engines more often.

Advantages of Blogs

The importance of blogs in search engine optimization cannot be ignored as an increasingly large number of individuals are using blogs as a medium to share information and interact with other like minded individuals. The creation of a blog as a search engine component offers websites the following advantages:

  • Blogs can contain links to the main site, which in turn leads to an increase in the number of quality in-bound links to the website
  • Helps in increasing site traffic and create awareness about the website thereby resulting in an increase in page ranking
  • Submission of the blogs to various blog directories helps in increasing one-way links to the website

Blogs help in attracting more search engine traffic.
